Confusing Economics
A nice digestible explanation on why the economy is in its current crisis and why we as citizens need to become more educated about these things.

April 4, 1968
Great discussion on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with Michael Eric Dyson on the 40th anniverssary of King's assassination. Plus a very on point criticism of the backlash against Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the black church.

Body of War
A look at why it should be important for the public to truly see what is happening to those being afflicted by the war in Iraq.

Audacity of government
Why am I so harsh on the Bush administration and firmly believe it has been the worst thing for America? Here's another example.

The Kerner Commission
An interesting look back at America's first attempt to really look at racism in America.

The Age of American Unreason
It just seems like the masses are getting dumber and dumber. What is the explanation for it? I've turned to susan Jacoby for a possible explanation for it.

A Brave New World
If this is the path our world is headed, I guess I should refresh my understanding.

Where Does the Money Go? Your Guided to the Federal Budget Crisis
Because I'd like to know and you should to. Now if we could get our government to read it.

Previously Contemplated

Here you'll find things I've run across that have piqued my curiosity, called for introspective examination of held philosophies and ideologies, or just something I thought was of interest that I wanted to share. However, it should be noted that simply because such items were contemplated and subsequently posted, it does not necessarily indicate my personal views on the matter. For that, you'd have to ask me what I think.

  • Army of Dude
Happen to catch this blog of an American soldier in Iraq writing about his tribulations during his deployment. Some interesting stuff.

  • Waiting to get blown up
For all the hard wishing and boisterous rhetoric that some are trying to convey about the good being done over in Iraq a stark reality remains, we are far from an agreeable end and things are not as rosey as some would have you believe.

  • There is no God
In light of the recent tragedies, and really just tragedies in general there's the inevitable discussion of faith and a divine plan. In one of my readings containing such a debate I came across this little gem by a person I find infectiously fascinating. His comments hit pretty close to home about my personal beliefs on the matter.

  • 2004 Election Stolen?
What is it they say about rumors that just will not die? Even if you choose to look the other way and opt out of such a cynical view of the situation, it is undeniable a stench still looms over the elections of George W. Bush (him and his administration's subsequent follies being a seperate fetor). If anything, this article demonstrates the vast incompentence of our voting system. Quite something in a nation touting itself as the beacon of democracy.

  • Petrodollar vs Petroeuro
With the current saber rattling going on with Iran, one has to wonder about the veracity of the administration's reason for invading Iraq. How long can we really think this "war" was not about gold... black gold.
Note when the article was written and what is happening with Iran just after the new year.

  • How damaging was the Plame Identity Leak?
Transcribed testimony of former CIA case officer James Marcinkowski before an unofficial hearing last week on Capitol Hill. A point of view from one of the CIA’s own on just how damaging current politics could be to our “national security”.

  • Theiving Social Security
An easy to understand explanation on how the government is outright stealing your social security taxes. For real.

You may want to correlate the explanation with your genreal social security knowledge

  • No Reset Button
Brief anecdotal evidence of lingering in the digital world a bit too long. Funny or concerning? And what could happen as digital entertainment continues to reach for total immersion and realism?.

  • Battlefield Earth
Bill Moyers' recent acceptance speech discussing environmental peril at the hands ideology and theology.

  • Suspension by Bose
A possible redefinition of a sound suspension? Could a “speaker” company completely revamp the automotive industry and possibly all types of transportation? Or is it just a lot of hype (which isn’t abnormal considering said company).

  • Bill Moyers Interviews Peter Peterson
Mr. Peterson, chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, gives his expert opinion on the pending fiscal and moral crisis of Social Security.

  • Limey @#!holes!!
A select choice of responses to The Guardian’s “letters across the pond” campaign to allow non-U.S. citizens a say in the American Presidential election. Check out the letter explaining this almost farcical attempt.

  • The Iraq Perfect Market
Perhaps the Bush administration did indeed have post-war plan for Iraq. To let Adam Smith do his thing?

  • Debate Camp
When George meets John. Fight!! An interesting perspective on the major candidates’ debate style and tactics on the eve of the greatly anticipated presidential debates. I wonder if both sides are taking notes?

  • Chinese nuclear power
The Chinese are on their way to meeting an exploding energy demand not by groveling over what oil the Middle East controls or drilling themselves but by actively solving their own energy issues with their own ingenuity. I wonder just how long it will be before the Chinese establish themselves as the next superpower.

  • Why my tax cuts aren't
A look at the current tax situation, what it means now and what it may mean in the future.

  • Interview with David Cay Johnston
A discussion with the award winning New York Times author of Perfectly Legal waxing philisophical on the continuing perversion of taxation in America.

  • Spies, Lies and Weapons
A leading Iraq expert and intelligence analyst in the Clinton Administration—whose book The Threatening Storm proved deeply influential in the run-up to the war—gives a detailed account of how and why we erred.

  • Red Ink Realities
A decidedly liberal point of view from Paul Krugman on the Bush deficit, for sure, but the issue is something that will hit all of us - hard if something isn't corrected.

  • Familiar Deficits
Reason article on the Bush administration's deficit spending and the blast-from-the-past Nixon-esque choices that may come to fruition. A little scary? No, it's extremely frightening.

  • Class Warfare & The NY Times
Alan Reynolds’ rebuttal to a NY Times report, A Recovery for Profits, but Not for Workers(registration required), written by Louis Uchitelle. Some politically charged dialogue on class warfare and the policies that follow.

  • Crichton on environmentalism
Interesting speech from best selling author Michael Crichton on environmentalism. But it's the religion subtext that has piqued my interest.
