oh sweet merciful... Jesus... ; )
I just came across this story about the Food and Drug Administration wishing to relax chocolate standards and allow manufacturers to sell chocolate that really isnt.
Apparently there are two main ingredients that make the sweet yummy goodness cocoa and cocoa butter. The former yields taste, the latter that creamy texture. And now the FDA wishes to allow a substitute for the butter. Proponents for the substitution say consumers would not be able to tell the difference. Of course, with bar set so low as to what is considered chocolate by those major candy companies, those economical chocolatiers are probably right.
I dunno, if the big manufacturers (i.e., Hersheys) want to crank out even more less-than-ideal confections, fine by me. I prefer fine milk chocolates and tend not to partake in such plebian treats, but should the FDA go through with their bowing down to bottom-line thinking lobbyists, they should at least mandate that chocolates made with alternatives such as vegetable oil or carnauba wax should be labeled as chocolate flavored or Frankenchocolate or something. I just hope this doesnt start a trend with some other favorites.

mad as hell and I'm still waiting
If you want to listen to something that will infuriate you to no end, you should really check out the testimony of Senor Gonzales today at the Capital. After such a disgusting display of ineptitude and bald face lying, it would be a disgrace to associate the prestigious position of Attorney General to Alberto. How am I to respect the office when such a disgrace cant even respect it enough to stand up and tell the truth? Honorable my ass.
But the larger picture of this honest-to-goodness charade is whats endemic to this administration. Placing personal politics, blind loyalties and general idiocy before the good of the nation. At this point can anyone really believe that were better off since this administration took the reigns?
This isnt simple political demagoguery Im spewing at this point. This administration has used government as its own personal playground of self-aggrandizing and good-ole boy circle jerks. And were the ones footing the bill and will continue to do so once theyve left town; fat and dumb on the theft of our labors earnings. I honestly feel sorry for people that continue to believe this administration is looking out for mainstream American and "compassionate conservatism". You guys are being taken for a ride and whats worse is you cant even see it for what it is. Its not like the administrations even trying all that hard to hide their blatant ineptitude at best, down right rodgering at worst. Oh, but I suppose if you spit out a little folksy inanity and claim Jesus Christ as your personal savior youre beyond reproach and your crap is as good as gold.
My god, I dont know whats worse, having to watch this continuing circus steamroll over everything noble about government or the utter inability of those being cheated to realize theyre being taken for fools when its right in front of their face. Have we let the common majority sink so low that basic thought process has become extinct?
When does the darkness end?

an April zeitgeist
well now, and I had planned to keep a little more current with my state of things. Guess that go shot to poo. Being a coporate lackey tends to do that to you. But I've freed myself for a bit, so here are some random what-ifs on the mind...
Oh wait, I forgot to give you the review on 300 from like a month ago. Ha. So I did indeed hit up the city. It was a nice train ride in and walk around the Lincoln Center area. The movie itself was what I expected. Overall it was just, okay. Nothing to gush about, but impressive on an IMAX screen. There were some cool scenes and plenty of cheesy ones. Overall it was formulaic but looked very pretty. More impressive considering almost all of it was done in a studio. Forgive the lukewarm rave, but the moments passed. I did have a nice walk about the city afterwards! A lovely jaunt from 66th, down 7th and 5th ave to Penn Station at 34th. The movie was worth seeing on an IMAX screen. Had I not the opportunity, I probably would have waited till it came out on DVD to rent. Eh. But another reason to visit a nearby IMAX... Spiderman 3. Oh yes.
So on to those other thoughts not consumed by serendipitously meeting the redhead of my dreams...
I see the current administration continues in its sinking to new governing lows. At this point all I can do is hope that these last 20 months go by fast with those clowns in office and when the dust settles we find we can actually repair the massive damage wrought by those idiots. And shame on the Democrats who continue their habit of self-destruction. Why, why, why in the good Lord's name would you do the EXACT thing you derided the Republican controlled Congress for doing? Send the damn emergency spending bill to the President with your "accountability" timelines, but leave out the pork. Why give the President any ammunition? Granted has managed to blow it up in his face, but still. When will we get responsible governing? Both parties need to be kicked to the curb. And yes, I still stand by my assertion that George W. Bush and his ilk have been the worst thing for this country since the Macarena... or that dancing baby thing. Ugh.
From a news story from last week I believe. Listening to a news cast of an "anatomically correct" chocolate Jesus and the foaming-at-the-mouth response it elicited. What was so controversial? That is was chocolate? And take that literally and figuratively. Was it because the loin cloth was removed? Was it because it was edible? What? I don't get it.
Is it a sign of the times that Tarantino and Rodriguez are disappointed that their 70's trash cinema throwback, Grindhouse failed raise any controversy in it's rating from the MPAA? A simple R rating for a guy who kills women with cars and Rose McGowan (♫haaaawwwt) blasting stuff up WITH A MACHING GUN LEG! Dude. What the hell. So stuff like Saw and trashy violence gets a meh, but Dakota Fanning has an off-scene molestation and you'd think society came crashing down. What the hell is wrong with "conservatives"? I guess slashing and gutting is fine, but show a penis and people lose their mind. Oh my god, what if they came out with an all nude Braveheart? Could you imagine the conniption fit that would grip the conservative nation? It'd be like the Rapture gone horribly wrong. Actually, now that I think about it. I thought for sure, Black Snake Moan would have gotten more uproar. Oh well, maybe everyone was glad to see creepy Christina chained up.
And what the hell is a Sanjaya?
