Sox win the pennant, Sox win the pennant!!
Okay so um well… yea! Now what? I suppose clubbing the Yankees must have felt almost orgasmic for Boston fans, but is it better than claiming the World Series? Hate to say it but the curse still looms. It would be almost cruel and unusual for the Red Sox to have come this far, to beat down their “daddy” only to have the World Series slip away. But I suppose that’s the pain of being a Red Sox fan. Yet there’s one thing that could be worse. Yep you got it, being a Cubs fan.

Hey Tim, what you got on St. Louis? How’s Terry holding up?

no limit email
So it’s been almost a month or so since I got my invite to check out the much-hyped Google email (thx B!). So far it’s been kinda cool. And a bit of a learning curve. Prior to the Google “store and search” method, I had email organization down to an exact science. Now it’s like I live in two different email worlds. In one I’m the master of folders and trees, a pristine warehouse system, in the other a vast landscape of any and all email scattered about with only a search command and a “label” as a means of organization. Is this the evolution of email? I wonder. But it is wicked awesome to see “You are currently using 0 MB (0%) of your 1000 MB” and having not “deleted” any of the mail I’ve accrued so far.

However, the ads displayed still remain a little freaky. Admittedly it’s a tad unnerving to be reading through your personal email talking about, uh, safe relations and seeing text ads for Trojans plastered all down the right side of the screen. Or perhaps I’ve got the tin foil toque pulled a little too tight. Nevertheless, I think I’ll keep the state secrets on the good ole trusty MSN email account. Now see, if I don’t use one of those emoticons could you tell if that last comment was wry or naiveté? ;)

even I'm compelled to believe
Oh my goodness that drama! I barely watch baseball. Which is pretty much never. Didn’t really appeal to me, but perhaps the mystique, the drama, the media buzz, or the sheer will of a team unable to give up, I don’t know but I’m watching now. Well at least this series.

I caught the last six innings of the Boston-New York game (in HD of course) and couldn’t pull myself away. Games like that are why I love sports so.

Now Boston is at New York tonight. I wonder… Go Sox Go!

Pomposity... U Got Served
This…
oh snap!

Because of this crappy WMV video file

You can go here for more viewing options or here to read the transcript (but it’s much better seeing it).

If any of you are unfortunate witnesses to the CNN political show Crossfire then you may have an inkling as to what Jon was talking about. He’s come a long way since MTV.

Doctor So and So
I received an invitation to check out a doctoral program for minorities interested in pursuing academic life in the realm of business schools. In other words, to become a business school professor. I’m not quite sure what to make of it. While I’ve always thought I’d make my riches early and pursue a teaching vocation once I retired young I never really considered doing it prematurely. However, this opportunity does allow me to get a better idea of what I can expect if I do decide to pursue a post graduate degree and perhaps get a head start.

I must say, I do like the thought of being “Doctor” so and so but I wonder if I’d like to apply it to the school of business. In my undergrad I developed a budding affinity for History and Philosophy. However, I also realized that such a career pursuit would conflict with other goals I wanted to achieve. I chose the more practical path, as you know, of which I really have no major qualms. Yet the decision has raised a great deal of introspection questioning my purpose and ultimate goals in life.

So I think it’s off to Chicago for me (all expenses paid) for three days to find out if I’m ready to take on the next opportunity. All ready, in the air, I can feel that tingle of apprehension and excitement you get when you know a major life-changing decision is about to be made. As always, come what may.

simplicity in a complex world
After watching the second round of debates I’m actually in more disbelief that a sizeable portion of our country feels that President Bush is fit to lead this country. Some say he’s just not a good speaker, some say it’s not really him leading the country but his circle of advisors, and some say we need a down to earth, everyday guy in the office to connect with us real folk. Whatever the case, I still cannot fathom that “Dubya” is an acceptable choice for a good deal of people out there. I just can’t.

This is the highest office in the land and the most powerful position in the world. He is the best we can do? Surely you jest. Say what you will about party platforms, ideology and thoughts on the purpose of government. Those are valid reasons to size up a candidate. But first and foremost we owe it to ourselves to make sure the person who takes up the reins of the most potent nation in history can at least carry two conflicting thoughts in his head without falling over. To make sure they can at least utter a complete, well-formed idea with relying on prompts and elementary sentence structure. It almost makes me nauseous to think that people want an “average” guy in the White House, somebody who’s “just like you and me”. It’s not an office that everyone should think they could manage. It’s an extraordinary post that requires, in fact should demand, exceptional leadership. Why do we feel the need to lower the bar to make ourselves feel better instead of raising it and pushing ourselves harder to rise to the challenge? Why are we content with selecting from the lesser of two whomevers?

where have you been?
An update!! Yea!! Work has started to pick up quite a bit and I’m working my first face-to-face client schedule, which means all my time is their time. Isn’t that swell? No. But more to my bottom line. So…

Just some little tidbits to share till I can score some time to contemplate my torrid attraction to Lindsey Lohan. (yes I even rented Mean Girls, but I heard it was good um… satire. Shut up Sam). Anyway I have found, so to speak, a fantastic new show on television! I actually wanted to post accolades after the pilot episode but just didn’t get around to it. Lost is some good stuff! I highly recommend it (especially if you’ve got some HDTV lovin setup inhouse). If you missed the first two or three episodes, unfortunate for you but don’t let any more slip by. I don’t know how long the premise will last, but for now it’s one of the few better things on the tv. And as a side note, for some guilty pleasure stuff check out Desperate Housewives. Good dirty fun. Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross – yummy. And it’s good to see Felicity Huffman doing her thing again, but I still miss Sports Night.

I’m sure some of you are waiting for my weighing in on the debates. Well, I’ve nothing to say on the matter until they are all finished. And it’s not like much of any detail will come out of these debates that would be substantial enough for me to reconsider my thoughts on the candidates. But that remains to be seen. I suppose we’ll see how it shakes out come November 2nd.

Oh yeah.

BOOMER SOONER
